Disclaimer: Yeah, I know. Joss and his band of fiends *ahem* I mean friends keep Giles on a
short chain. But I own everyone else. And we've got a set of bolt cutters.
Feedback: Please. All flamers however will be lined up and stooge slapped.
Note: In this one we get to find out a little more about Sarah and Giles pasts (Is that a
word?), what Wendy's problem is, and finally who Sarah is supposed to heal. (As if you
couldn't guess.)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"We' ve got special plans for you." The vampire hissed. "You killed our beloved. And now you
will pay."
"Why can't we just kill her?" one of the others growled.
"Yeah. I'm hungry." The other added.
"Patience my pretties. We want to leave a message for those that would avenge her. And she
must share the pain she has caused us. Hold her." He then pulled out a wicked looking knife
while the others rolled her on her back and held her shoulders. The lead vampire straddled her
waist and ripped open her shirt. "Now my sweet, time for a special message." He started to
cut. Sarah screamed at the pain and then did something she hadn't done since she'd arrived in
this reality. She retreated into herself.
"They can't hurt me here." she told herself over and over. She hadn't withdrawn like this in a
while, not since the last time her asshole husband had beat the crap out of her. That memory
brought on a flood of others before she could stop it. The father who had abandoned her, the
succession of mom's boyfriends, who had done horrible things to her and her twin sister. The
beatings her husband had given her. She forced her thoughts back to her sister and locked all
others away. Her mind lingered on her sister's face as she found herself standing in a garden.
It had been a while since she had thought of Christina. The memory threatened to free the other
ones Sarah had banished. She forced them back again the words they had used when 'Uncle Chuck'
would come into their room at night and given them their 'special attention'.
"You can't hurt me where I hide. Cause I won't let you get inside. In my garden green and
bright, I fight the shadows of the night." As if the words had called her forth, Sarah saw her
sister, as the darker thoughts retreated. "Hi Piglet." she smiled."
"Hi Kanga" Christina answered. She looked about nine years old. "Long time, no see."
"You haven't changed much."
"Of course not. I'm dead."
Tears sprang to Sarah's eyes. "I know. I'm sorry I couldn't stop him."
Tina shrugged "There wasn't much you could do. You were just a kid and he was a lot bigger. He
would have killed you too. But you needed to live. You still do. You have a Destiny."
"No thanks. I've had enough. I think I'll stay here and forget everything."
"You can forget all you want, but you can't stay here."
Just then Sarah felt something pulling her.
"Sarah" a man's voice called, but for some reason she couldn't connect the voice or the name to
anything that had to do with her. Suddenly the garden was gone. It was dark and the most
gentle, green eyes she had ever seen were looking down at her. There was something important
she was supposed to know about them, but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't remember.
"Sarah" he had said.
And all she could answer was "Who?"
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Ye should go home lad and get some sleep. I'll stay with the little lass. Ye'll be nay good to
her if yer sick from exhaustion." Ian laid a hand on Giles shoulder.
Giles sighed and put his face in his hands. The cut on his arm was throbbing, but that pain
was nothing to what he felt when Sarah hadn't known him. She looked so vulnerable lying there,
asleep. The vampires had carved 'you will all die' on her stomach, well as beating her. The
doctor had said she would recover physically, even though there would be some scars. He had
also commented that she appeared to have older scars that were as bad as these would be. As
angry as that had made Giles, it also gave him hope. It meant that she had survived a vicious
attack before, so she could do it again. The doctor also had said it was possible she had
amnesia, but whether the head trauma or the shock of the attack caused it they had no way of
knowing. They also couldn't say if her memory would return. That had hurt Giles the most. Yet
again, he had found someone that he cared deeply for, only to lose them. And it was made worse
by her being alive, but still as far away as if she died.
Ian stood him up and pushed him toward the door. "Besides," he broke into Giles thoughts, " ye
need to take Wendy home. She's got some recoverin' to do too. Don't worry Rupert. I'll stay
with Sarah so she won't wake up alone."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She opened her eyes hoping to see the green eyes from before. They made her feel safe. With all
her confusion, they were the only steady thing in her life right now. She still had no idea
who she was, but that didn't bother much until she thought about those eyes. Her lack seemed
to hurt them. Instead of those safe green eyes, however, a pair of twinkling blue ones greeted
her.
"Glad you're awake, lass. We were starting to worry."
There was something odd about this little man. She didn't quite know what, but he seemed...
Before she could finish the thought he spoke again.
"You have to find your way back. It's the only way you can help him." Then he blinked and
seemed just a normal man again. "The doctor says ye can go hame soon. Maybe that'll jar yer
memory. I sure hope so. It's not as much fun to tease Wendy without yer help."
End part three.
