Rating: Pgish (Sarah and Wendy settle their differences, Meow)
Disclaimer: Yeah, I know. Joss and his band of fiends *ahem* I mean friends keep Giles on a
short chain. But I own everyone else. And we've got a set of bolt cutters.
Feedback: Please. All flamers however will be lined up and stooge slapped.
Note: In this one we get to find out a little more about Sarah and Giles pasts (Is that a
word?), what Wendy's problem is, and finally who Sarah is supposed to heal. (As if you
      couldn't guess.)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Happy Birthday, lass"
Sarah looked up from the spell she was studying to see Ian, wearing a lopsided grin, and
holding out a box tied in a red ribbon.
"Birthday?"
"It's been one year since ye've graced our lives with yer presence."
Sarah smiled back and took the box. "I've never been very good with birthdays. So how about
Happy Anniversary instead."
"One words as good as another. Just open the damned thing so Ian will stop bouncing off the
walls." Wendy griped from across the room, where she and Giles were researching their latest
case.
"Yer just upset I didn't get ye a gift too." Ian shot back as Sarah stuck out her tongue at the
other woman.
Giles sighed, and rubbed his eyes under his glasses. "Is it entirely possible that we could
get through one day without the three of you bickering over something."
"Sarah grinned. "I'm not bickering. I'm opening a present. Besides," she grinned impishly,
"Wendy started it." At that she proceeded to remove the ribbon and open the box. "Ooh. A new
stake. Thank you Ian." And she jumped up to give the little man a hug. "Good timing too.
Giles and I were going to try and get those vamps that set up in Ascension's cemetery before
they kill anyone else. And after all, my other one got burned up," She shot a look to Wendy.
"I thought it was kindling. You did leave it near the fireplace. And besides, you're not the
slayer. I don't know why you have to go with Giles."
"Because you refuse to go and Ian has to set up and monitor at the house we're checking out.
Why are you jealous or something?" Instead of answering, Wendy just slammed shut the book she
was reading and left.
"Must have struck a nerve." Sarah muttered and went back to her spell. Before she could find
her place, she felt Giles standing over her. "Damn he smells good today." She thought.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Wendy had stormed out, Giles had finally had enough. He went over to Sarah. She looked up
before he had a chance to say anything.
"I know. 'Go apologize and get her to come back.' "
Giles looked serious. "No actually. I want you to find her and work things out between you.
This constant fighting is starting to take its toll on the investigations. I'm sure I don't
need to remind you about that Nottinghamshire fiasco last week."
"We still got the ghost to go bye-bye."
Giles fought to control his rising temper, "that's not the point. The point I'm trying to make
is-I want you to-just go and don't come back until you and Wendy can get along for more than
30 seconds."
Sarah lowered her eyes and seemed to cringe a little. "Yes sir" she said quietly and slipped
out the door. Giles was surprised at her reaction, half expecting her to come up with
something smart to say before she left. But as he thought about it, he realized that she only
ever acted this way when he lost his temper about something. The thought nibbled at something
at the back of his memory only to be interrupted by Ian
"Bit hard on her, weren't ye me boy? I mean all ye had to do was ask and she would of done it.
Ye didn't have to lose yer temper."
Giles sighed "I know. I just couldn't take it any more. Why do they have argue like that
anyway?"
Ian smiled" If ye haven't figured it out lad I'll nay be the one to tell ye. I just hope they
work things out without too much bloodshed"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Bitch!" Sarah reeled back from the slap Wendy gave her. "Things were going great until you
showed up." Wendy followed the slap by trying to tackle Sarah, who barely managed to get out of
the way. Wendy quickly recovered her balance and managed get a handful of Sarah's hair. "He
finally stopped talking about that slayer of his and then you show up." Sarah grabbed Wendy's
arm with one hand and backhanded her with the other the best she could, causing them both to
fall over. They rolled around for a few minutes knocking over a trash can and trying to scratch
each other's eyes out when Sarah got the upper hand and punched Wendy in the stomach, knocking
the wind out of her. She then rolled off Wendy and lay on the sidewalk next to her.
"You are jealous. " she said softly "Do you love him?"
Wendy lay there gasping for a moment before she answered. "I don't know that I love as much as
I feel like...like..." she sat up. " I guess what it is, I'm used to getting any man that I want
and he just seemed like a challenge because he didn't respond the way I'm used to."
Sarah sat up as well. "That's why you're always making those suggestive little remarks and
trying to "get a rise out of him' so to speak."
Wendy smiled "You have to admit, he is rather cute when he blushes. Anyway, it got to be a
habit after a while. Then you came along and suddenly, you're getting the reaction that I
wanted without even trying. All he can talk about is how far your magic skills have come and
how he doesn't know how we got along without you in the business. I got tired of hearing
'Sarah staked two vampires last night' or 'wasn't it great how Sarah was able to convince that
spirit to move on'. If I didn't know better, I'd say he's fallen for you. How about you? Do
you love him."
Sarah thought for a second. "Yeah I think I do."
"Well don't break his heart, or I'll pay you back for that punch." The two scratched and
bruised women looked at each other and started to laugh. Just then a shadow loomed over them,
blocking out the street lamp.
"Hello my lovelies" they heard a voice growl.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giles was just about to go out looking for them, when Wendy suddenly burst through the door.
"Vampire's...took ...Sarah" she managed to say before she passed out.
